Crate pads work when they match the crate. Measure the interior floor of the crate pan, then choose the size that covers it edge to edge. For a growing puppy, size the pad to the crate the puppy will finish in.

The terms are interchangeable. Both describe a low-profile cushion cut to a crate's interior floor dimensions rather than to a bed silhouette. A crate pad or crate mat should cover the pan edge to edge and sit low enough that your dog can stand, turn, and settle comfortably inside the crate.
A crate calls for a pad measured to its pan rather than a standard bed. Bolstered beds sit tall and ride up crate walls, taking away the room a dog needs to stand and turn. A true crate pad, sometimes called a crate bed or kennel bed, keeps a low profile, covers the floor edge to edge, and gives the crate a real resting surface instead of a folded blanket.
Match the pad to the crate's interior floor: Small is 18" x 24", Medium is 22" x 30", Large is 24" x 36", and X-Large is 26" x 42". For a growing puppy, size the pad to the crate the puppy will finish in. When a measurement falls between sizes, choose the size that still sits flat without riding up the crate walls.

Care is component-based. The Ali Jewel® pad's cover unzips for cold-water machine washing and line drying, with no heat, bleach, or bleach alternatives; its inserts and foam are not washable, so spot treat soiled areas with a solution of half white vinegar and half water and air dry. The tufted Katie Puff® pad has no zipper and machine washes whole in cold water, then line dries. Each product page carries the exact care for that pad.
