Memory Foam Dog Beds
Memory Foam Dog Beds
Some dogs do not just lie down, they sink in and stay. A memory foam bed is built for that kind of rest.
A memory foam dog bed is built around Companion-Pedic® memory foam at 4 to 5 pounds per cubic foot, which responds to your dog's weight and warmth so they can sink in and settle. Most styles place that memory foam over a firm 55 ILD support foam. The Ortho Rectangles (Katie Puff® and Ruby Puff®) are the exception: each is one solid slab of memory foam that uses the floor as its firm support. This collection gathers the styles built on it, from bolstered puffs to flat rectangles and bed rugs.
What makes a memory foam dog bed supportive?
Memory foam is the comfort layer, and it needs something firm beneath it. Low-density foam feels soft at first and flattens under a dog within months; memory foam in the 4 to 5 pound range holds its structure under sustained weight. In every style but the Ortho Rectangles, a soft memory foam layer lets your dog sink in and settle comfortably, while a firm 55 ILD support foam underneath provides a stable base. The Katie Puff® Ortho Rectangle and the Ruby Puff® Ortho Rectangle are the exception: each is a single 2.5-inch slab of Companion-Pedic® memory foam designed to use the floor beneath it as its firm support. They are deliberately not thicker, because deep memory foam with nothing firm under it would let a dog sink too far.
SHAPED TO HOW THEY REST
Which memory foam bed suits how your dog sleeps?
Choose the silhouette by your dog's resting position.
Dogs Who Curl
Dogs who curl tightly settle into a bolstered style such as the Katie Ortho Puff® Encore™, where the raised edge gives them something to lean into.
Dogs Who Sprawl
Dogs who sprawl need a full, flat expanse of foam, such as the Katie Puff® Ortho Rectangle or the Roxy Ortho Puff® Bed Rug.
Dogs Who Step In
Older dogs who step rather than climb into bed do well with a low entry, such as the Ruby Sydney™ Ortho or a lounger.
MEMORY FOAM AND ORTHOPEDIC
Is a memory foam dog bed the same as an orthopedic dog bed?
Not exactly. Orthopedic describes the goal, which is support; memory foam is one of the materials that achieves it. The beds in this collection are chosen for their Companion-Pedic® memory foam. For beds chosen first for joint support, including styles built for older and larger dogs, see our orthopedic dog beds, and for the full comparison read Memory Foam Dog Beds: Are They Worth It?
CRAFTED WITH PURPOSE
What is a memory foam bed made of at Animals Matter?
The comfort layer is Companion-Pedic® memory foam, and designated foam components are CertiPUR-US® certified. Many styles pair the foam core with Luxura-Fill® bolsters for a soft, enveloping edge. One crate pad in this collection uses a latex top over a foam base; its product page lists its construction. Components are selected in alignment with California Proposition 65 standards, and each bed is finished, inspected, and shipped from Palm Springs, California.
Chosen well, it becomes the place your dog goes on their own, and the quietest corner of the house.
Memory Foam Dog Bed Questions, Answered
Sizing, construction, and materials for memory foam dog beds, answered plainly.
Size by the inner resting area, the surface your dog actually lies on, not the outer footprint. Measure your dog in their usual sleeping position, add a few inches to shift and turn, and match that to the inner dimensions listed on each product page. When your dog falls between sizes, choose the larger one.
Sizes run from X-Small to X-Large depending on the style, and each product page lists inner and outer dimensions so a bed can be sized by its inner resting area.
Companion-Pedic® memory foam has a density of 4 to 5 pounds per cubic foot. Every style except the Ortho Rectangles places it over a firmer support foam rated at 55 ILD: a soft layer to sink into above, a stable base below. The Katie Puff® and Ruby Puff® Ortho Rectangles are each one solid slab of memory foam that uses the floor as its firm support.
Pressing firmly with your hand concentrates pressure in one small area, so you may feel the firm support beneath the memory foam, and on the Ortho Rectangles, the floor itself. Your dog's weight spreads across a much larger area, so the memory foam cushions their body while the firm base beneath gives structured support. That is by design.
Many styles pair the foam core with Luxura-Fill® bolsters for a soft, enveloping edge. The Katie Puff® and Ruby Puff® Ortho Rectangles are each one solid 2.5-inch slab of Companion-Pedic® memory foam with no bolsters, for dogs who rest at full length.
The collection gathers the beds built on Companion-Pedic® memory foam. One crate pad in the collection uses a latex top over a foam base; its product page states its own construction, and latex is not memory foam.
No. A memory foam bed is a comfort and support product, not a medical treatment.
